STEP and cookies

Our site uses cookies, without infringing on your privacy. It is important to us to inform you clearly about that. Transparency leads to trust! What are cookies? What do they do? What do they not do? How can you delete them? You can read all about them here.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a simple computer data file that is sent with the pages of this website. It can then be stored on the hard drive of your computer, tablet or mobile phone by your browser.

What is the purpose of cookies?

Cookies allow websites to recognise you, while at the same time safeguarding your anonymity. The site learns your preferences and automatically adjusts to your wishes. However, that information is in no way linked to your name or identity. For example, thanks to these cookies, you can browse sites in your own language, so you don't have to enter your log-in details every time you visit it. So cookies ensure that your visit is much faster and more enjoyable.

Cookies can also help with assessing the popularity of web pages or the average time spent during your visit. A cookie can also be used for commercial purposes. For example, they can keep track of your areas of interest, so that you only see advertisements that may be of interest to you.

Cookies improve websites. Thanks to cookies, you can get to the information you want faster. For example, you don't have to keep re-entering your language preference and entering the same information on each visit.

EMMI also uses cookies to ensure that the site's features are more efficient and relevant. By analysing the anonymous browser behaviour of our visitors, we learn what information is being looked at most.

How do I reject or delete cookies?

Rejecting cookies:

If you would prefer not to accept cookies in general, but want to make an exception for regarding our website cookies, you can specially configure your browser settings.

That configuration depends on the browser you are using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc.). Check your browser's 'help' function for more information on how to do this.

It is better not to reject 'session cookies'. Without session cookies, our website will not function properly. Session cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser.

Deleting cookies:

You can configure your browser to automatically delete cookies when you close your browser. If you do that, your browser will not for example remember log-in details such as usernames and passwords. You will have to enter them again every time you start a session.

To delete cookies automatically, you should do the following:

Internet Explorer

Go to the 'Tools' menu and click on 'Internet options'. Select 'Delete browsing history'. If you want to make that permanent, click the box by 'Delete browsing history on exit'.

Mozilla Firefox

Go to the 'Tools' menu and click on 'Options', then 'Privacy'. Select 'Never remember history'. If you want to select the cookies to be deleted by yourself, click on 'remove individual cookies'.

There is always the possibility for you to use BadgeTracker for Firefox.

Safari

Go to 'Preferences', click on the 'Security' tab and then on 'Show cookies'. Select 'Remove all'.

Google Chrome

Go to 'History', click on 'Show full history' and then on 'Clear browsing data'.

There is always the possibility for you to use BadgeTracker for Chrome.
